History
Menorca has been axis from a lot of cultures, beginning with prehistoric tribes. Menorca is full of prehistoric monuments, which become the island in a big museum at the open air.
A lot of civilisations tried to conquer Menorca island to get an strategic point in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Each of this civilisations have given their point of view to make Menorca culture. The Romans, Christians, Arabic, English and French conquered Menorca and left their part of culture, knowledge, legends and history.
Menorca is the most eastern and northern island from Balearic archipelago.
It has a land area of 702 square kilometres and a coastline of 216 kilometres. 50 kilometres in length and 23 kilometres in width. The highest elevation of the island is Monte Toro at 357 metres.
The coast of Sant Lluís, at the eastern end of the island, is the first spot in Spain where the sun rises.
Festivities
- June 23rd and 24th: Sant Joan in Ciutadella.
- End of July: Es Mercadal, Fornells and Es Castell.
- August, almost every weekend: Es Migjorn Gran, Llucmaçanes, Alaior, Sant Climent, Ferreries (24th and 25th , Sant Bartomeu) and Sant Lluís.
- September 8th and 9th, Mare de Déu de Gràcia in Maó.
Climate
The island's climate is typically Mediterranean and is well known for its mild temperatures.
The average annual temperature is between 16º and 17º centigrade. In summer , the average is 24ºC and in winter, 11ºC. In a normal rainfall pattern, the maximum seasonal rainfall is in autumn and very little falls in the summer period

Opening hours:
Most shops and businesses open from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and then from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Some shops close on Saturday afternoons.
Larger supermarkets open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Hospitals:
All towns in Minorca provide medical services. The national health service has a hospital in Maó (Verge del Toro) and various outpatient surgeries spread out through the island.
There are also various private medical centres on the island.
The Red Cross is present in the main towns and on the most popular beaches.
Pharmacies:
Normal opening hours are from 9.a.m. to 1 p.m. and then from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Saturday opening times are from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Outside of these opening times, there are 24 hour opening time shifts established among the pharmacies.
